Nokia 5, Nokia 6 Receiving August 2017 Software Update Alongside Google Pixel, Nexus Phones

HMD Global are keeping themselves on the top of the headline and keeping the new Nokia Android devices up to date, a promise they made at MWC2017. And they are totally keeping their promise by rolling out the August 2017 security update within hours of release for their new smartphones.

It is confirmed that Nokia 5 (TA-1053) and Nokia 6 (TA-1021) is getting the latest update alongside Google Pixel and Nexus family of devices. This update could be available for the Chinese versions of Nokia 6 and Nokia 3 but it is not fully confirmed yet. We have the official OTA zip file for the Nokia 5 that you can flash manually on the phone. For the Nokia 3 and Nokia 6, we will update as soon as we have something.

Nokia 5 - August 2017 Update

To download the latest update, go to Settings > About phone > System updates on your Nokia 5 or Nokia 6. Your phone will check for the latest available Android software update and let you know. The global roll out has begun, for it may be possible that the update may not be available for you in your region.

There are no new features or any new apps included in this latest update. The only addition in this update is of Google Security Patch 2017-08. The total size of the update is about 125MB which we think is a pretty big size for a security update.

Nokia 5 August 2017 OTA Update

Nokia 3 users should not be disappointed. Android O has already been confirmed, and Nokia 3 is scheduled to receive Android 7.1.1 Nougat update by the end of this month i.e. August 2017. We would love to know about your experience once the update arrives on the device.

HMD Global has also confirmed that all of the Nokia devices (Nokia 3, 5 and 6) will get Android O experience. Yay? We sure are excited to know this. And by the looks of it, Nokia will be getting the new Android experience treat much sooner than any other OEM out there.
