Nokia 2 users will be getting upgraded directly to Android 8.1 Oreo, and will skip Android 8.0 altogether. Why? As per Nokia, Android 8.1 will incorporate various new features and modifications from Android Go, the lightweight Android OS by Google for phones with 1GB RAM. A number of users have been asking us about the Oreo update for Nokia 2 — now we have an official statement (tweet) from Juho Sarvikas regarding this.
Android Go is designed for budget-friendly smartphones that provide a powerful experience with Android Oreo. A number of core Google apps have been redesigned to work better on entry-level phones with 1GB RAM. This will ensure a much better and faster experience on the Nokia 2 in coming updates!
Here is the Twitter thread where Juho Sarvikas explains why and how Nokia 2 will skip Android 8.0 Oreo, and directly receive Android 8.1:
Hi! It will receive Android Oreo. 1GB RAM devices will be supported on 8.1 release where many of the Android Go memory management improvements will be integrated. Nokia 2 performance will only get better over time!

So Nokia 2 users, enjoy this news! Nokia 2 will not technically be an Android Go phone, instead Android Go memory management features will be added into Android 8.1 Oreo for better performance.
And to add to all this, Nokia 1 is being rumoured to be the very first Nokia phone to feature Android Go right experience out-of-the-box. For that, we will have to wait and see.
