HMD Global had a very jam packed MWC 2018 conference and apart from the flood of smartphone releases, there was this key announcement regarding Android OS. Nokia 6 2018, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco would all be receiving the upgrade to Android P. With Android Oreo nearing the end of its version cycle, Google is set to release Android P later this year. We only have the letter confirmed for the next major Android revision till now. Luckily, Nokia 6 2018, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco find themselves as part of Android One program. This special program is a collaboration between HMD Global and Google to further enhance the Android upgrade process on Nokia devices. Thanks to this partnership, Android P will be coming to Nokia 6 2018, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco.
Right now, we don’t have any further details on Android P itself but the fact that HMD Global has already promised that whenever it comes, it will arrive on the mentioned devices really speaks a lot. So if you are looking to purchase yourself a new smartphone for this year, Nokia smartphones are great options thanks to their future prospects.
For loyal Nokia users who don’t own the mentioned devices, the probability of having Android P arrive for them is quite high as well. However, HMD Global hasn’t yet given official confirmation similar to that for the Nokia 6 2018, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco. Judging from the 2 year software update cycle that has been confirmed already, we can easily see more older Nokia phones getting the Android P upgrade. As seen from the past, HMD Global has a commitment on providing the best software experience on each of its smartphones by pushing continuous and fast Android software updates.
